Building paper

Building paper is a heavy paper containing an asphalt mixture used in construction as lining or vapor
barrier to prevent water intrusion between sheathing and an exterior wall covering such as stucco.
Improperly installed building paper can allow for water intrusion from the exterior wall covering.
